Russian Stocks Decline as MOEX Russia Index Falls 2.71%

Russian equities closed lower on Saturday as losses in the MOEX Telecommunication, MOEX Oil and Gas, and MOEX Metals and Mining sectors dragged the market down. The MOEX Russia Index fell 2.71%, reaching a new one-month low by the close of trading in Moscow.

Among the session’s top gainers on the MOEX Russia Index were PhosAgro PJSC (MCX: PHOR), which rose 1.80% (105.00 points) to close at 5,932.00, PIK SHb PJSC (MCX: PIKK), which gained 1.46% (7.20 points) to end at 501.00, and Magnit PJSC (MCX: MGNT), which increased 1.23% (54.50 points) to 4,470.00 in late trading.

However, several stocks experienced notable declines. ADS Ozon Holdings PLC ORD SHS (MCX: OZONDR) dropped 6.30% (234.50 points) to close at 3,486.50, TATNEFT n.a. V.D. Shashin (MCX: TATN) fell 1.63% (10.10 points) to 608.10, and Aeroflot PJSC (MCX: AFLT) declined 1.35% (0.90 points) to 65.56.

Overall, declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones 48 to 29, with two remaining unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, the Russian Volatility Index (RVI), which measures the implied volatility of MOEX Russia Index options, dropped 0.58% to 49.43.

In the commodities market, gold futures for June delivery fell 2.76% ($86.30), settling at $3,035.40 per troy ounce. Crude oil for May delivery dropped 7.41% ($4.96) to $61.99 per barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 6.50% ($4.56) to trade at $65.58 per barrel.

On the currency front, USD/RUB increased 0.47% to 84.50, while EUR/RUB declined 0.39% to 92.57. The US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.95% to 102.77.
